During a dental cleaning, you’ll receive diagnostic and preventive services from our dentists.

Diagnostic services may include:

  • Reviewing and updating medical history, including information about heart problems, pregnancy, diabetes, and medications, which may impact on your oral health.
  • Oral Cancer Examination and Screening
  • Evaluation of Gum Tissue
  • X-rays and Examination of Teeth to Detect Decay

Preventative services may include:

  • Removal of Plaque and Tartar
  • Stain Removal

  • Sealants
  • Polishing Teeth, including Filling & Crowns
  • Cleaning and Adjustment of Dentures & Partial Dentures

Poor oral hygiene can lead to a variety of dental and medical problems such as gum disease, infection, heart disease, stroke, and even diabetes.

Periodontal Disease (Gum infection)

Diagnosing Periodontal Disease

Periodontal disease is an infection that affects gum tissue and bone supporting the teeth. If left untreated, periodontal disease can lead to tooth loss. Research has also shown that periodontal disease is associated with other chronic inflammatory diseases, such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

If you are faced with gum disease, we offer a variety of treatments to help prevent, reverse, or offset the damaging effects of this disease.

Progression of gum disease is influenced by a number of factors which include oral hygiene and genetic predisposition.

One of the challenges for early detection of periodontal disease is its “silent” nature. The disease does not cause pain and can progress unnoticed.

In its early stages, bleeding gums as you brush your teeth may be the only sign, as the disease advances and the gums deteriorate. However, bleeding may stop and there may not be any further obvious signs until teeth start to feel loose.

Root Canal Treatments

A root canal involves the removal of an infected nerve and damaged pulp in an infected tooth.

The procedure is completed when the tooth is sealed to protect against additional infection. At times, this is the only option left of a dentist to save your natural tooth rather than extracting it.

Crowns

Crowns and Root Canals

A crown is a cover or “cap” that is put over a tooth or implant. The crown restores the tooth to its normal shape, size, and function. A crown can make the tooth stronger or improve the way it looks.

You may need a dental crown if:

  • You have a cavity that is too large for a filling
  • You have a tooth that is cracked, worn down, or otherwise weakened
  • You have had root canal treatment — the crown will protect the restored tooth
  • You want to cover a discolored or badly shaped tooth to improve your smile

Bridges

Dental bridges literally “bridge” the gap created by one or more missing teeth.

Reasons you may need a bridge:

  • Restore your smile
  • Restore the ability to properly chew and speak
  • Maintain the shape of your face
  • Distribute the forces in your bite properly by replacing missing teeth
  • Prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of position

Dental Fillings Procedures

Dental fillings procedures are most commonly used to treat cavities, but also used to repair cracked or broken teeth, or teeth that have been worn down over time.

Most filling procedures feature the following:

  • Topical & local anesthetic to numb the area
  • Decay removal from affected teeth
  • Tooth restoration using a tooth-colored composite or amalgam filling
  • Bite check to make sure your teeth align comfortably
